Healdsburg Museum: “Many Paths to Healdsburg”

📍 221 Matheson St Wed–Sun, 11 AM–4 PM Free

Step inside the town’s 1911 Carnegie library for free, rotating exhibits on local history. The current show, on view through mid-August, traces the many communities who built Healdsburg, shown alongside the permanent collection on the area’s Indigenous people and its prune, hops and wine-grape roots.

Swimming at Veterans Memorial Beach

📍 13839 Old Redwood Hwy Daily, 7 AM to dusk Lifeguards on duty

From July through Labor Day, Sonoma County Regional Parks raises its seasonal dam on the Russian River to create a calm, lifeguarded swimming area just below the historic Memorial Bridge. Expect a sandy beach, shady lawns, picnic spots and free loaner life vests. Admission is free; parking is a small fee, or free for Regional Parks members. Regional Parks and Healdsburg Sunrise Rotary also host the beloved Healdsburg Water Carnival here each July, so check the parks website for this year’s date.

Summer Reading Challenge

📍 Healdsburg Regional Library, 139 Piper St Free

The Sonoma County Library’s all-ages Summer Reading Challenge runs through the season at the Healdsburg branch. Read, log your minutes, and pick up prizes at any library location through the end of August. Stop by to sign up, grab a good book, and beat the afternoon heat. The branch is open daily, with later evening hours on Tuesday and Wednesday.

A welcoming, historic parish in the heart of downtown, open to visitors and locals alike. Weekend Mass is offered Saturday at 4:30 PM and Sunday at 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM in English, with a 12:00 PM Spanish Mass; weekday Mass is held Monday through Friday at 9:00 AM. North Street closes between City Hall and Little Saint on market days, so there is plenty of room to roam.

Fourth of July Kids’ Parade & Duck Dash

The heart of Healdsburg’s Fourth beats on the Plaza. Hosted by the Rotary Club of Healdsburg Sunrise and the City of Healdsburg, the morning starts with sign-ups around 10 AM and the Kids’ Parade stepping off at 11 AM for a loop around the square. Deck the kids out in red, white and blue and roll in on decorated bikes, trikes and wagons. Expect lawn games, face painting, live music, and the famous Duck Dash, where you can adopt a rubber duck and cheer it to the splash zone. Streets around the Plaza close to traffic for the celebration, so come early and plan to walk.

Independence Day Fireworks

📍 Near Healdsburg High School 9:30 PM Free

After dark, look to the sky above Healdsburg High School for the city’s big fireworks finale, presented by American Legion Post 111 with the City of Healdsburg and the Tourism Improvement District. The shells climb 200 feet and higher, so any spot with a clear view of the sky over the high school works well. University Avenue and several nearby streets close to traffic in the evening to make room for spectators, and personal fireworks are not permitted.

Want to see local democracy up close? The City Council meets on the first and third Mondays of the month at 6 PM, so July’s regular meetings fall on Monday the 6th and Monday the 20th. Local tip:  Downtown parking around the Plaza fills up fast on the Fourth and on concert nights, so arrive early or park a few blocks out and enjoy the walk. Most Plaza events are free and family-friendly, and many of Healdsburg’s best moments cost nothing but a blanket and a sunset.
